As I get comfortable with rehearsing material for upcoming performances, I find myself reflecting on all the extremely talented people I've been blessed to connect and work with through the many aspects of my life...
In music and specifically in performance, the bonds created have been sincere and comfortable. I've had to trust and be trustworthy because live performance can be merciless at times. As a vocalist or front person, I know when things don't go as rehearsed, the quality my improvisation is suddenly reflected in the relationships I've established with the musicians and stagehands who are out there with me, some I've often only just met. I've suffered with anxiety, forgotten words, fallen out of melody, missed ques, had stage equipment fail, and even on the rare occasion had 'special effects' backfire. Through it all, I've come to value the creative wit and amazing professionalism of some great people who've helped me overcome those unexpected moments. For me, music has not only been an emotional outlet and a source of inspiration, but more importantly music has turned out to be good for my soul.
